Itinerary Day by Day
Fes – Ifrane – Midelt – Merzouga
Depart Fes in the morning and climb toward Ifrane before stopping beneath the cedars near Azrou, where Barbary apes are sometimes seen. Continue across the Middle Atlas to Midelt for lunch, then follow the changing plateau scenery toward the Sahara. Reach Merzouga in the late afternoon and check into a hotel beside Erg Chebbi. Sleeping near the dunes on this first night leaves the following day open for the regional visit and camel journey to camp.
Merzouga Area – Camel Trek – Desert Camp
After breakfast, begin an exploration of the Merzouga area. Visit nomadic families under their goat hair tents and learn about life in the desert. Discover the Gnaoua people — descendants of slaves brought from Sudan — and have the opportunity to listen to their music and learn about their culture and way of life. Continue exploring the area with a visit to Rissani among other interesting places. In the afternoon, meet your camel guides who will take you on a camel ride across the mysterious sea of sand of Erg Chebbi. Watch the sunset over the golden dunes and reach your desert camp where you will enjoy dinner, a campfire with live Berber music, and spend the night in a tent under the stars.
Merzouga – Todra Gorges – Dades Gorges
Wake up early to enjoy the magical light before sunrise over the dunes. Meet your tour guide again and continue toward the Valley of Dades. Travel toward Tinghir and stop for lunch. In the afternoon, visit the spectacular Todra Gorges with time to walk between the canyon walls and admire the views. At the end of the day, drive to the Valley of Dades and enjoy the beautiful landscape before a dinner and overnight stay in a hotel or riad.
Dades Gorges – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
The final stage begins among the rock formations of the Dades Valley and follows the Valley of Roses toward Ouarzazate. Continue along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs with planned photo stops, then spend time at the earthen ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site and used as a filming location. The last drive climbs the Tizi n'Tichka road through the High Atlas before descending to Marrakech for an end-of-afternoon drop-off.
