Itinerary Day by Day
Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Merzouga
Leave Fes for the deliberately paced first leg of the five-day journey. Pause in Ifrane, continue to the cedar forest near Azrou for a chance to see Barbary apes, and break for lunch in Midelt. The road then crosses the Middle Atlas through forests, springs, and Berber villages before dropping into the arid landscapes around Merzouga. Settle into a hotel near the Erg Chebbi dunes; the full desert-area visit and camel-camp experience are reserved for the following day.
Merzouga Area – Camel Trek – Desert Camp
Use a full day around Merzouga instead of leaving the dunes after breakfast. Meet nomadic families and learn how daily life is organized in the desert, listen to Gnaoua music, and visit Rissani before returning to Erg Chebbi. Later, travel by camel across the sand as the light softens toward sunset. Dinner, live Berber music, and an overnight tent at the desert camp complete the day, with time built in for the surroundings rather than a rushed onward drive.
Merzouga – Todra Gorges – Dades Gorges
After sunrise and breakfast at camp, reunite with the driver and leave Erg Chebbi for Tinghir. Stop for lunch before entering Todra Gorges, where there is time to walk between the high canyon walls rather than viewing them only from the road. Continue through the changing valley scenery to Dades for dinner and a hotel or riad night. Because Ouarzazate has its own stage on day four, this afternoon can finish in Dades without compressing both regions into one drive.
Dades Gorges – Valley of Roses – Skoura – Ouarzazate
Begin the journey along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, first passing through the Valley of Roses — the rose capital of Morocco. Continue through Skoura Oasis, known for its beautiful palm trees, before arriving in Ouarzazate, the Hollywood of Africa, where large studios have attracted major international film productions. During this drive you will pass many beautiful spots for photos and panoramic views. Overnight in the Ait Ben Haddou area in a hotel or riad.
Ait Ben Haddou – Kasbah of Telouet – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech
Begin the morning with a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou, a striking example of southern Moroccan architecture and a famous filming location for major international productions. On the way to Marrakech, visit the Kasbah of Telouet, once the seat of Pasha El Glaoui of Marrakech. Continue through the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka pass at 2,260m — the highest road pass in Morocco. Arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon where your tour ends.
